During our plant identification workshop in Grass Valley, we worked with a few plants from the BriarPatch Native Plant Demonstration Garden. The garden is maintained by the Redbud Chapter of CNPS. The following are the native, perennial grasses we keyed out:

Plants collected near Kramer Junction (Hwy 395 and SR 58) in the Mojave Desert. Keyed out during our workshop at the Center for Plant Diversity at UC Davis:
- Syntrichopappus fremontii
- Leptosyne calliopsidea [Coreopsis calliopsidea]
- Pectocarya recurvata
- Pectocarya sp. - likely P. linearis ssp. ferocula and/or P. platycarpa
- Lupinus odoratus
- Mentzelia albicaulis
